On Friday, March 21, 2025, the nation woke up to the news of Justice Varma cash row wherein news agencies reported about huge piles of currency notes being found at High Court Judge’s residence following the spread of fire. While Justice Varma was not present at his residence on the day of incident, and while he denied any knowledge of such cash, the Judge Cash Video shared by the Supreme Court of India in a press release dated March 22 on its official website ignited the controversy. The Delhi High Court announced withdrawal of Judicial Work from Justice Yashwant Varma, and the Supreme Court Collegium constituted a 3-Judge Committee to oversee Justice Varma Cash Inquiry.

The Supreme Court of India shared a video stating “Video as shared by the Commissioner of Police Delhi with the Chief Justice of the High Court ofDelhi”.

People Reacting to Judge Cash Row

Judge’s house on fire has ignited a cash controversy, and the flames do not seem to diminish any sooner. While faith in justice has shuddered, people took it to social media to express their thoughts on the matter. Here, we have compiled some of the posts shared by users on X (formerly Twitter) which reflects the current state of affairs and the question marks surrounding Justice and Judiciary.

  1. An X User Dev (@JatlandBong) took a funny yet sarcastic dig at the controversy. He quoted an allegedly Kenyan Proverb which read as “Why to hire a lawyer when you can buy a Judge”.

The said quote suggests that rather than paying the one who represents you in the Court, you should rather pay the one who is going to decide the matter in the Court of Law. The post knocks off the idea of Justice as is being questioned in the current affairs after Judge Cash Video has been made public by the Supreme Court of India.

  1. Another user Rohit Kapoor (@IndianTrainFan) shared a seemingly AI generated photograph wherein the Idol of Justice, the blindfolded Lady Justice is seen peeking through her blindfold towards a bundle of currency offered to her.

The image allegedly suggests that Justice, that is Judges can be biased when offered benefits as reportedly and allegedly happened in Justice Varma Cash Row.

  1. Another X user Rohit Kr Pal (@rohitkrpal2) shared a video by ANI wherein burnt currency notes were caught in the vicinity of Justice Varma’s residence. He commented that while an ordinary person cannot earn enough in his whole life even after working really hard day and night, Judges leave that much money in their home and tend to forget the same.

This was a sarcastic comment over the plight of citizens who find it difficult to meet the ends working their whole life, and they find about scandals as big as Rs 15 Crores being allegedly found at the High Court Judge’s House.

  1. Another user Rajesh Surana (@rajsuranaNCIB) questioned whether we are actually fighting corruption. He quoted the statistics of India being ranked 96th among 180 countries in terms of corruption matters. The user has shared an image of Justice Yashwant Varma and a video of burnt currency notes as shared by the Supreme Court of India.

The X post questions the extent to which corruption has been taking place in India over the years. The Judge Cash Scandal has ignited a new flame bringing the idea of justice on fire.

  1. While others questioned the Justice Varma cash row among the allegations of pile of currency notes worth approx 15 Crores being found at Delhi High Court Judge’s residence, another user named Upvinder Bhatia (@UpvinderB) suggested that Justice Varma Yashwant should submit his resignation from the post and surrender before the Judiciary.

While the agony has turned way more stronger after the Supreme Court shared video of burtnt notes at the High Court Judge’s residence, we should not forget that things are skeptical at this point. The scandal is way too huge to be ignored, but authorities are on their toes in Judge Cash Case.

  1. While the Supreme Court has formed a 3-Judge Committee in Judge Cash Controversy, and the Delhi High Court has withdrawn Judicial Work from Justice Yashwant Varma, another X User Anurag (@AnuragA03008044) expressed that taking away Judicial work is not enough. He further sought to prevent any salary or pension which the Judge may otherwise be entitled to. Showing concern towards the Taxpayer’s money, he vetoed against any rewards for misconduct.

Two Words

While the nation is shook after the Justice Varma cash news hit the media platforms, we should keep our calm because the matter will be investigated further. While the currency notes found burnt in the fire incident at Delhi High Court Judge’s residence speaks a lot about the state of affairs, Justice Varma complains of being framed. Whatever be the case, nothing can be concluded prior thorough investigation. Hence, all that is said still remains as allegations, and anything worse proved will most probably bring some stringent action against Justice Varma, and hopefully for any other Judge wrongfully making money over the plight of those facing hard times in Courts.
